BARLEY
Barley, a plant from the grain family, is generally used in the production of products such as flour, bread, malt and as animal feed. Starting from the Middle East 10,000 years ago, barley has been improved in different parts of the world, resulting in the barley we use today.
Barley, which is cultivated on an area of approximately 57 million hectares in the world, ranks 4th in grain production after corn, wheat and rice, and second in Turkey after wheat. It is widely cultivated in Russia, Canada, Turkey, France and the United States, regardless of climate.
While those with high protein content are preferred in feed barleys, barleys with low protein and high starch are preferred in barleys used in the malt industry.
Approximately 150 million tons of barley are produced in the world. Turkey comes after the USA, Russia, Canada, Australia and Ukraine with approximately 7 million tons of barley production.
