WHEAT
Wheat ranks first among cultivated plants (plants grown by humans) in the world in terms of cultivation and production due to its wide adaptability. Wheat, which is the basic food of about 50 countries, provides approximately 20% of the total calories supplied to the world population from plant-based foods, while this rate is 53% in our country.
Wheat, one of the main raw materials of food production worldwide, is a continental climate grain that is very hot and does not like moisture. In addition to being used in the production of many foods such as flour, bread, pasta, biscuits, it is also produced and used as animal feed. Today, countries such as China, India, USA, Russia, Australia, Canada, Ukraine, Turkey and Kazakhstan are the world's largest wheat producers. While China and India consume the wheat they produce in their domestic markets, Turkey and Kazakhstan process the wheat and turn it into flour. Turkey, which is the leader in global flour exports, is also in the first place in pasta exports. The US, Russia, Australia, Canada and Ukraine are in direct competition in terms of wheat exports.
While the amount of wheat produced in the world is approximately 800 million tons, approximately 20 million tons of wheat is produced in our country. Turkey ranks 9th in global wheat production ranking after China, India, Russia, USA, Australia, Canada, Ukraine, Pakistan.
In addition to being one of the most important wheat producing countries in the world, Turkey also imports wheat. The main reason for importing wheat is to process it as flour and pasta for export.
